Strand Life
I get a strand life this December. Got a job in Strand Life Sciences, Bangalore.
So, far the next best thing I did to myself after getting selected in IIT. This post is not only about what I got, its also about what I didn't get in IIT.
Starting from the first year, I never associated myself with any single activity, be it sports or programming or guitar or academics. Throughout the three and a half years so far spent, I have tried every possible thing I could. I became part of TT team and badminton team. I also participated in all the events of Eclub. This didn't stop me from participating in Animation club activities as well. I was always fascinated with softwares, be it a software for 3D modelling, or programming or computational softwares like MATLAB and Mathematica. I tried everything.
I did a few projects, all in a different area thus, giving me a flavour of different aspects of electrical engineering. I am lucky that I'm part of an Indian institute, thus was given the chance to switch from one project to other, I don't say it is good on my part to do so. But at least I got to learn a lot from whatever mistakes I made. I have paid the price for not documenting my work, and I now know that, I should spend more time on documenting work rather than just finishing the work.
I have never let down my strengths, that is the ability to solve problems. I have always taken any problem as a challenge, be it related to academics, or project, or a real life problem. One also encounters trivial day to day problems and I am happy that I have come to the rescue of a lot of my friends when they need help. But just intelligence doesn't help one grow. And who else can understand than me. Just for the sake of lethargy I didn't go for an intern and wasted 3 crucial months of my career. Anyways, I had still learnt a few good lessons about life during that time, thus not wasting them completely.
I am closing in towards the end of my college life, and thus wanted to share a few glimpses here. For anyone who reads this, they should keep in mind, intelligence is never enough, you should be diligent and that is very important (this is what my father always wanted to teach me, and I learnt it the hard way). I got a job in Strand Life Sciences because they have seen something in me, which might be useful to them. I hope I will do justice to them.
For anyone getting into IIT... "this is a tough place.. but worth the effort :D"
