I'm loving my Dell Vostro 1520
I purchased a new Laptop on 1st November 2009. This is my first laptop. Its a Dell Vostro 1520.
Those of you who have seen this laptop, might be thinking, "what an idiot! spending the money on a box". Well gentlemen, what you consider a box, is actually my style and so I have no complaints for its boxy look. And what should I have bought instead of this box... Inspiron??? Though I would have got the same config for a lesser price, but what about the looks? It would have had a screen which could be used as a mirror(not a plus point)... also the whole body would be reflecting when you are working. I don't like such laptops. And its better to have a box, which has a AntiGlare screen and a matte finish. I love the looks of this.
I'm also liking the keyboard, though its not very well finished(the H key is slightly tilted, but its not creating much problems). I had read about heating issues which people have faced. I was very concerned since I didn't want too much heat. But now I'm pretty satisfied since the left palmrest is only little warm than the right palmrest and it is not too uncomfortable. Also the sound level is very low. And if it remains at this level I have no issues.
The speakers are not world-class. I would have spent a few extra bucks if I could have got better speakers, but since there was no such option I'm ok with it.
At present the battery backup is 4 hrs with audio on, and brightness level 3.
The laptop is looking good. I am not looking forward to do any experimentation with it. I hope it does a good job for me. I am satisfied with what I have got right now. I wish it keeps working the same way.
And if someone doesn't mind a box, he should buy this... its good for the price.
